Public Speaking
Start with the Basics: When sharing a concept or a sicha (Chassidic discourse), start with a basic explanation before diving into details. Most people need context to grasp the question being answered.
Practice Makes Perfect: The more you speak, the better you become at it. Know your audience's level of understanding and adjust your explanations accordingly. It’s okay not to have all the answers and to show your authentic self.
Know and Love the Topic: Only speak about topics you are passionate about and fully understand. If you don’t have a genuine interest or grasp of the subject, it’s better not to present it.
Be Practical: According to the Rebbe, practical advice is key. Instead of only discussing abstract concepts, give your audience actionable steps. Practical suggestions help people make real changes.
Structure Your Speech:
A: Find a key idea (vort) that resonates with you and your audience.
B: Simplify and explain this idea clearly.
C: Use stories to illustrate the idea.
D: Start with a compelling opening to grab attention.
E: End with a powerful, thought-provoking statement.
Structure: Once you have your key elements, work on the speech structure. If you know your message well, you may not need notes.
Develop Your Style: Find a personal style that works for you. It’s not necessary to use a joke or story every time; focus on making your message personal and engaging.
